WASHINGTON, April 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Maria Contreras-Sweet, will join PBS Veterans Initiative Senior Director Ron Pierce, representatives from Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Wikipedia and SBA's Office of Veterans Business Development (OVBD) in New York City on May 7 to launch "The Community Challenge," an initiative to seek cities where local officials and PBS affiliates collaborate to expand and publicize resources for small businesses owned by veterans and military spouses.
PBS, OVBD and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families will share video content which PBS will use to produce a film highlighting successful veteran-owned small businesses that have benefited from SBA resources and programs on multi-media channels (web platforms, television, print).
The communities will be featured during National Veterans Small Business Week in November, 2015. Community Challenge efforts may include local businesses encouraging larger corporations choose veteran-owned small businesses in their supply chains, outreach to and commitments from community lenders to support veteran access to capital, and public recognition and support of local veteran-owned small businesses.
