Say Goodbye To Monthly Rental Fees - Consumers Can Now Own Their Own Linksys Cable Modem
Linksys Announces Three New DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modems
PLAYA VISTA, Calif., June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Linksys®, a leader in networking solutions for the home and business today announced three new cable modems – two available today and another coming later this summer. Shipping today - these two new high speed cable modems, the CM3008 8X4 and the CM3024 24X8 are DOCSIS 3.0 certified, include Intel Puma chipsets and are compatible with major cable service providers including Charter®, Comcast Xfinity™, Cox® and Time Warner Cable®. The CM30016 is a 16X4 DOCSIS 3.0 certified cable modem and will be available later this summer. The CM3008 is ideal for subscribers that purchase cable broadband plans up to 100 Mbps, the CM3016 is for subscriptions up to 250Mpbs and the CM3024 is for subscriptions over 250Mbps.
"Consumers can save up to $120 a year if they purchase their own cable modem instead of paying monthly rental fees," said Brian Nickell, cable modem product manager at Linksys. "With rental fees being on average $10 a month, consumers can have our CM3008 paid off in as little as six months and have the latest high performance modem that matches the broadband plan they have subscribed to."
According to an IDC InfoBrief, sponsored by Linksys, titled Revisiting the Cable Modem, Where the Internet meets the Home, IDC surveyed more than one thousand U.S. participants with an active cable modem subscription to understand the behaviors of cable modem and gateway use in the home. The research project found that the majority of people want more ways to save money on their cable bill:
- Two-thirds of people who got their cable modem from the cable company are paying monthly rental fees of about $10 per month. Only one in five purchased their cable modem from a retailer, and three-quarters of them did it to avoid the monthly fee.
There is still a lot of confusion when it comes to modems. Cable broadband service providers are rolling out more premium cable services, and requirements for the hardware and these new services are critical for providing customers the internet speeds they are paying for. Consumers are not sure what to purchase or if what they have matches the services they are paying for, thus providing slower speeds and frustrating experiences.
- Nearly half of cable broadband subscribers don't know the speed of their broadband subscription service.
Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer internet packages by speeds. Users can purchase speeds ranging from 25 Mbps all the way up to 1 Gbps. Each of these services requires different modems to support the speed consumers are subscribing to. The chart below provides an overview of Modems and their features that support an internet service package by speed. If users don't know which service package they have, they can check out their internet service bill or call their service provider.
