Sawgrass Country Club Announces Phase II Of Golf Course Renovation

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The EAST course of Sawgrass Country Club was closed in late April to begin the second phase of the three year golf course renovation project. 

The three-year project began with the renovation and opening of the West nine-hole course in November, 2013.   The second phase continues with the East nine holes and opening in October, 2014, followed by the South nine holes in spring and summer of 2015. Sawgrass Country Club formerly hosted The Players Championship tournament from 1977 to 1981 prior to the tournament moving to its present location.

The Sawgrass Country Club courses are being renovated as part of the club's master plan to refurbish the golf course infrastructure. All the fairways, tees and bunkers are part of the renovation project. Substantial improvement work will be done on other areas of the golf course, including the bridges, drainage, cart paths, bulkheads and the irrigation system. The greens renovation is planned for the future.

Sawgrass Country Club has partnered with golf course architect Robert Walker to complete the design and manage the project. Walker has vast experience in course design and project management. He was a protege of Ed Seay, the original course architect from Arnold Palmer Design Company during the construction of the club's original East / West layout. MacCurrach Golf Construction has been selected to complete the construction work on the initial West course project.
