Sawgrass Country Club Announces $5 Million Golf Course Renovation

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sawgrass Country Club (SawgrassCountryClub.com) will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation of all 27 holes of the golf course beginning in May 2013.

The three-year, $5 million project began with the closure of the West nine-hole course on May 14. The second phase will continue with the East nine holes in the spring and summer of 2014, followed by the South nine holes in spring and summer of 2015. Sawgrass Country Club formerly hosted The Players Championship tournament from 1977 to 1981 prior to the tournament moving to its present location.

All the fairways, tees and bunkers are part of the renovation project. Substantial improvement work will be done on other areas of the golf course, including the bridges, drainage, cart paths, bulkheads and the irrigation system. The greens renovation is planned for the future.

Sawgrass Country Club has partnered with golf course architect Robert Walker to complete the design and manage the project. Walker was a protege of Ed Seay, the original course architect from Arnold Palmer Design Company during the construction of the club's original East / West layout. MacCurrach Golf Construction has been selected to complete the construction work on the initial West course project.
