WASHINGTON, Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) today announced its endorsement of Colin Van Ostern in the Nov. 8 New Hampshire gubernatorial race, as well as seven other candidates in state legislative races in New Hampshire, Washington and Iowa.
"We are proud to endorse these candidates from both parties who will each work hard to make sure kids in New Hampshire, Washington and Iowa have the chance to attend high-quality early education programs, ensuring that they receive a strong start in life," said Mark Shriver, president of SCAN. "I encourage voters in these states to support candidates who will invest in kids and understand that high-quality early learning is a key component to improve a state's economy. It is ultimately the responsibility of parents to raise and instruct their children, but early education can assist families, particularly those facing tough times, so that all children have an equal opportunity to succeed in life."
SCAN is engaged in a bipartisan way in state races, endorsing the following candidates and using independent expenditures to reach out to voters to highlight each candidate's support for early childhood education:
New Hampshire:
Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern (D-NH)
State Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley (R-Senate District 03)
Former state Sen. Peggy Gilmour (D-Senate District 12)
Washington:
State Sen. Steve Litzow (R-Senate District 41)
State Rep. Ruth Kagi (D-House District 32)
