Saundra Paschal Recognized for Work in Secondary Education
Ms. Paschal is a high school mathematics teacher specializing in algebra II and pre-calculus
SAN ANGELO, Texas, Dec. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Saundra Paschal is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Attributing her success to the support she received from her own teachers in high school and her ability to teach students in ways that helps the material resonate with them, Ms. Paschal kicked off her career in education in 1973 as a teacher's aide. Not initially intending to become a teacher, once she discovered her natural aptitude for teaching and the great joy she found in seeing her students succeed, she was prompted to pursue education as a career path and earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Angelo State University in 1980. Currently, Ms. Paschal holds the position of mathematics teacher with Lake View High School in the San Angelo Independent School District, where she teaches honors algebra II and pre-calculus to juniors and seniors.
Ms. Paschal's contributions to Lake View High School are not limited to her teaching, however. For some time now, she has served as the coach for the mathematics team and has acted as the coordinator for the University Interscholastic League at the school. Additionally, she has donated her photography skills to a number of school sporting events, taking pictures of the athletes and their games. She has also more broadly served the San Angelo Independent School District on the curriculum writing team for many years. Finding the most gratifying thing about her career to be the times when she has been able to teach alongside her former students, Ms. Paschal recalls a notable instance in 2008 when the Lake View High School football coach and his entire staff were all her former students.
In addition to her primary work, Ms. Paschal has pursued a number of other professional endeavors as well. Associated with Henry Holt & Company, part of Macmillan Publishers, as an adviser and reviewer of algebra II books, she has also contributed her skills locally to various charitable organizations and to her local church, where she is the organist. In an effort to remain up to date with developments in her field, Ms. Paschal maintains affiliation with several professional organizations, including the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Honored twice with a Teacher of the Year Award, first in 2000 and again in 2014, Ms. Paschal has been presented with multiple accolades and honors throughout her career. Having previously been featured in the Top 12 Educators of the Year Calendar, she was further named VIP of the Year in 2010 and Elite American Educator in 2011. In 2012, she was recognized with the Worldwide Lifetime Achievement Award and as a Top Female Professional of the Year. Following these significant achievements, she was honored as a Top Educator of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals in 2017. In light of all these storied accomplishments, Ms. Paschal was awarded an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and a Distinguished Humanitarian Award in 2017 as well.
