Saudi Tabreed appointed by Saudi Aramco to develop District Cooling System for Dhahran area
DHAHRAN, Saudi Arabia, February 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Saudi Tabreed announced that it has signed an agreement with Saudi Aramco to develop and operate a District Cooling System to cool all the buildings of Saudi Aramco in the Dhahran area. Under the agreement, Saudi Tabreed shall design, construct, finance, own, operate and maintain a centralized cooling plant and a network to supply chilled water to the Saudi Aramco buildings with a cooling capacity of 27,000 Tons Refrigeration. The agreement is for a 23 year term.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Abunayyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Tabreed stated that " This project reflects the keenness of Saudi Aramco to maintain the environment. By using a district cooling system, which consumes half the electrical energy consumption as compared to that for traditional methods of cooling.
Mr. Abunayyan also highlighted that it was of immense pride for Saudi Tabreed to be working on developing the Project for an internationally acclaimed company such as Saudi Aramco. The representatives of Saudi Aramco showed immense professionalism during the discussions and finalization of the Project. This reflected the keenness of Saudi Aramco towards the participation of the private sector in the development of current and future projects planned by the company.
During the occasion, Mr. Nabeel Abdullah Al-Jama, Executive Director for Community Services, Saudi Aramco mentioned that this deal emphasis Saudi Aramco's concern with regard to the energy conservation as well as giving a chance to private sector to invest and work in Saudi Aramco projects which will reflect positively on the national economy.
The District Cooling basically is generating chilled water from one or multiple sources and distributing to cluster of buildings in the same district using pre-insulated pipe network.
