Saudi King Doubles Humanitarian Aid to Yemen to More than $500 Million
WASHINGTON, May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz announced Saudi Arabia will donate an additional $267 million in humanitarian assistance to Yemen, for a total of more than $540 million. This announcement was made today during the laying of the foundation stone ceremony for the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works headquarters in Riyadh.
"We hereby announce the allocation of an additional amount of SR1 billion (nearly $267 million) to this center, all of which is in response to the humanitarian and relief needs of the brotherly Yemeni people," said King Salman.
King Salman continued, "Our goal and mission will be to work effectively to ensure that this center is based only on humanitarian principles without any other motive and in coordination with internationally approved relief organizations."
The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works will focus on ensuring support for the Yemeni people, as part of Operation Restoring Hope.
On April 17, Saudi Arabia pledged the entire $274 million sought by the United Nations for emergency assistance to Yemen.
