Saudi Foreign Minister Addresses Global Counterterrorism Forum
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal addressed the Global Counterterrorism Forum yesterday in New York to discuss international efforts toward combatting global terrorism.
During his remarks, Prince Saud stated, "Faced with such serious realities, we are required today to initiate polices and take fateful and resolute decisions to confront this vicious attack with full force and determination, and to act seriously and swiftly, taking into account the element of time and the consequences of inaction."
Prince Saud continued, "Such efforts should not stop at achieving partial victories against specific organizations, but to continue until it eliminates all terrorist organizations wherever they are, and whatever their motives, to rid humanity from this despicable evil, and preserve the legitimate human right to live in dignity and peace and security."
"My country [Saudi Arabia], for its part, will not hesitate to participate in any serious efforts aimed at mobilizing a concerted international action and intensifying it to fight terrorism wherever it is found, and whatever its motives and reasons are, or those who stand behind it, regardless their race, color or religious belief," stated Prince Saud.
Prince Saud discussed the establishment of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT), calling on leaders to do more. He noted that the recommendations of the forum will empower the UNCCT to activate programs broadly among member and non-member states. Prince Saud said, "In spite of the world's consensus on the seriousness of the phenomenon, and the need to combat it, the centre is still in desperate need for effective international contribution to enable it to fulfill its role in the context of existing international efforts."
Prince Saud's remarks came after the Royal Saudi Air Force participated in military operations over Syria to confront terrorism emanating from Daash (ISIS) and to support the moderate Syrian opposition as part of an international coalition to defeat terrorism and to support the fraternal Syrian people to restore security, unity and to rebuild their suffering nation.
