Saudi Arabia Qualifies for Little League World Series
WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, the Little League announced that the Arabian-American youth baseball team from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia will advance to the World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which begins on August 18.
"The World Series provides an opportunity for youth to facilitate cultural interaction among different nations and improve understanding," said Saudi Ambassador to the United States, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir. "Saudi Arabia is committed to sports education throughout the Kingdom and is excited to be a part of this event."
Special efforts have been made to encourage sports and make them accessible to the public. Hundreds of facilities were established throughout the Kingdom so that all Saudis can exercise regularly and enjoy popular spectator sports. In addition, all levels of the Saudi education system – from kindergarten through university – emphasize the importance of sports.
