ATLANTA, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sarah Funderburk has been awarded the June, 2014 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (www.prsageorgia.org) in recognition of her dedicated volunteer work for the chapter.
The award recognizes members who have significantly contributed to the chapter's success and is given monthly or when appropriate. She was presented with a certificate and inscribed pen.
Since joining the chapter in 2011, Funderburk has served on the Membership Committee for two years and has been involved with outreach to non-members, as well as assisting with new member receptions. She has also served on the Awards Celebration Silent Auction Committee for two years.
"After accepting my first 'real' job at Schroder PR, I joined the Georgia Chapter of PRSA because I feel it's very important to be involved in our industry," she said. "It's a great way to meet and learn from superstars in PR, and I've become even closer with members while serving on committees."
Funderburk was recently promoted to Account Director at Schroder Public Relations, where she leads the Real Estate Division and in-office team. She also contributes to the weekly eNewsletter – The Atlanta 100. Before joining the Schroder team, she completed an account assistant internship with BRAVE PR and a Public Relations and Social Media Internship with the Auburn University Division of Student Affairs. She earned her B.A. in Public Relations with a focus on Marketing from Auburn University.
Because of this type of volunteerism, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.
PRSA's Georgia Chapter (www.prsageorgia.org) consists of some 850 members throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members.
The Chapter has monthly meetings, as well as eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
The Chapter supports 10 PRSSA (student society) groups at the following colleges: Berry College (Rome), Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta), Columbus State University (Columbus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), Georgia State University (Atlanta), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw), Savannah State University (Savannah), University of Georgia (Athens), and University of West Georgia (Carrollton).
