WALLDORF, Germany, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced the general availability of the 8.0 release of the SAP® Transportation Management (SAP TM) application. Unveiled in April of this year, the new release significantly expands its scope of logistic and fulfillment management capabilities. Commercial transportation is becoming more complex for the worldwide networks of shippers and logistics service providers (LSPs) moving raw materials, parts and finished goods through global supply chains. SAP TM helps these companies efficiently, quickly and accurately orchestrate the movement of goods. It creates an environment that simplifies, automates and interconnects transportation processes, improving order management, planning and consolidation and optimizing inbound and outbound shipments – all while taking into account real-world constraints, costs and penalties.
"With SAP Transportation Management, we're able to better deploy our 100-vehicle fleet, manage numerous carriers, reduce order and inventory cost, and optimize visibility and delivery of all orders," said Hazem Mohammed El Banna, CIO at Abudawood, a fast growing sales and distribution services provider. "Our 8.0 release deployment went live last week after a smooth implementation project executed in less than four months. As we operate in emerging markets, we need a solution that gives us speed and agility in delivering for customers, but also simplicity and compliance in managing the complexities of local markets."
Further benefits of the application include automating transportation tendering, execution, tracking and settlement processes, as well as helping ensure compliance to international trade regulations and in handling hazardous material. Beyond economic gains, the SAP software helps companies, people and processes run better across the transportation operations that account for 15 percent of global CO2 emissions.
