"Our business analytics solutions help people, teams and entire organizations run smarter," said Steve Lucas, general manager, Business Analytics, SAP. "It is great to see recognition of our leadership in the business analytics market by Gartner, a leading analyst firm. We believe our performance – which is ahead of the market growth rate – demonstrates how customers are looking to SAP as a trusted business partner to help their return to growth. Not only do we bring innovative technologies to market, we also help customers apply them to solve their business challenges. In doing so, we help them to deliver real-time information to any device, create agility across value chains and enable the previously impossible. This allows them to understand the business impact of risks and opportunities, and take coordinated action to events as they're happening. Our technology and business expertise enable customers to go beyond what they seek to achieve."
According to the Gartner report, "The global recession that swept the world had a major impact on markets and for a period of time, especially the first half of 2009, paralyzed them. While IT spending overall was negative during that time, the BI market managed to grow 4.2 percent in 2009. In 2010, the global resurgence from stimulus packages, general improvement in the macroeconomy and new product releases contributed to a surge in spending. As a result, BI software growth accelerated to 13.4 percent in 2010. As BI spending has far surpassed IT budget growth overall for several years, it is clear that BI continues to be a technology at the center of information-driven initiatives in organizations."
In the report, Gartner found the total market revenue to have reached $10.5 billion in 2010, marking a 13.4 percent increase from 2009's revenue of $9.3 billion. BI platforms were found to have a 63.7 percent market share of total worldwide BI software revenue. CPM suites were found to have a 20.6 percent market share, and analytic applications and performance management software were found to have a 15.7 percent market share. In 2010, SAP software revenue for all of these aforementioned segment types combined ranked first at approximately $2.4 billion.
