NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Easter Seals New York will host its annual Santa visit and Holiday Toy Drive on Tuesday, December 20th, at the Bronx Child Development Center (CDC) in Bronx, New York. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., students and their families will gather together to not only visit with Santa, but receive toys graciously donated by the New York State Fraternal Order of Police (NYS FOP) and their Foundation, enjoy a holiday meal, and perform songs learned in the classroom. The NYS FOP has donated hundreds of toys to the Bronx CDC every year, making them an invaluable member of the Easter Seals New York family.
"Easter Seals New York is very fortunate to have such passionate and committed friends as the NYS FOP," says Hayrim Byun, Easter Seals New York Vice President of Major Gifts & Planned Giving. "Not only have they cheered the holidays for our students in the Bronx, but their tremendous support has reached individuals throughout New York State."
The Annual Santa Visit and Holiday Toy Drive is part of Easter Seals New York's Hunger Initiative; a yearly drive to bring food and winter clothing to individuals in need through outreaches. In 2010, over 1,000 individuals came out to our December Holiday Outreach, with over 3,000 toys alone being distributed to children in need. When many local families struggle to make ends meet, Easter Seals New York's Community Outreach Program offers monthly essentials such as food and clothing, as well as a conduit for accessing public health and social services for the community. In 2011, Outreach served over 6,500 people and distributed approximately 65,000 pounds of food.
"The New York State Fraternal Order of Police has historically been an incredible friend to the Bronx CDC," commented Stanley Kalmon Schlein, Esq., Chairman of the New York City Regional Board. "Their generosity is commendable, and has brightened the spirit of hundreds of children in the Bronx in the winter."
