Santa Tracker Rings In New Year With Subscribers Logging 12.5 Million Sessions In December
Family-Friendly Holiday Content Usage Trebles Over 2015 Levels
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Santa Tracker, ZoneTV's interactive holiday-themed experience for pay TV, is a verifiable hit with subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.
The "pop up" programming service which is only available between Thanksgiving and Christmas garnered greater engagement this year with 12.5 million unique sessions, averaging between 10 and 13 minutes in December alone. This is triple the usage patterns reported in 2015. Using the service, consumers played games 4.4 million times and viewed 2.4 million movies on demand, according to data collected on the advanced cloud based platform from ZoneTV. Most important, countless children and families were entertained together.
ZoneTV also achieved a significant increase in TV household distribution (from 8.5 million households in 2015 to more than 25 million in 2016) reflecting the popularity of its seasonal mix of games, music and movies. New affiliates included Comcast X1 and DIRECTV. Returning service providers included AT&T U-verse TV, CenturyLink and Frontier Communications, all in the U.S.; and in Canada via Bell Canada and TELUS.
Santa Tracker is accessed via the electronic programming guide (EPG), allowing affiliates to expand their video line-ups to accommodate this unique Christmas programming without adding a traditional linear channel. Viewers watched holiday movies, listened to "Rudolph Radio," and played games or read stories with their children. It peaked Dec. 24 with a global map, showing the progress of Santa Claus' trip around the globe.
