Santa Clara County REALTORS® Foundation Launches One Million Dollar Challenge to Help the Homeless
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 15, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Santa Clara County REALTORS® Foundation, the charitable arm of the Santa Clara County Association of REALTORS®, has launched a campaign to raise one million dollars for those who are homeless in Santa Clara County.
"The SCCR Foundation is always looking for ways to give back to those who are in need in our local community and what better way to do that than to help those who are homeless," said Chair Gustavo Gonzalez.
San Jose is reported to have the fifth highest number of unsheltered homeless in the country, after Los Angeles, New York, San Diego and Seattle. SCCAOR and the SCCR Foundation want to make sure there is shelter for homeless individuals and families in Santa Clara County.
The money raised by the foundation's One Million Dollar Challenge will go to Stand Up for Kids Silicon Valley, which provides homeless youth with programs, training and resources, and Family Supportive Housing, which provides a spectrum of services to those who are faced with poverty, hunger and homelessness.
Beth Leary, Executive Director of Family Supportive Housing, said, "Receiving $500,000 in support from the Santa Clara County REALTORS® Foundation would transform Family Supportive Housing's ability to help single and two-parent families with children put homelessness behind them forever."
The SCCR Foundation will match the donations it receives up to $100,000. All donations are tax-deductible.
SCCAOR President Craig Gorman noted that, "As REALTORS®, we do more than sell homes. We give back to our local community and help those in need. The Foundation's One Million Dollar Challenge will help those who are unfortunately living on the street or in shelters."
Several real estate firms have already contributed to the challenge. Sereno Group has generously donated $27,000. Alain Pinel Realtors, Keller Williams, and Coldwell Banker also have come forth with their support.
