LOS ANGELES, Dec. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of impoverished inner city children will receive toys packed especially for them at Los Angeles' largest Christmas Toy Party at the Fred Jordan Mission today Saturday, December 16 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Skateboards, dolls, balls, stuffed animals and every kind of toy imaginable will be distributed by volunteer elves. The Family Christmas Celebration will be held at the Fred Jordan Mission, at 445 Towne Avenue, on the corner of East 5th and Towne, in downtown Los Angeles.
Poor and needy boys' and girls' faces will light up with joy and wonder when they see the mountain of new toys, and realize they can take home what may well be the first NEW toy they have ever received. To thousands of families who do not have a real home, the Fred Jordan Mission is truly their home at Christmas. Volunteer elves will be cooking warm cookies for everyone.
Over 10,000 children and families are expected to attend. The party will also include a Spectacular Christmas show featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse*singing Christmas Carols, courtesy of The Walt Disney Company.
Friends of Disney will greet the children, and escort them to the Toy Giveaway tables where each child will receive multiple toys, and blankets, hats, mittens and socks. In addition, each mother will receive a Christmas dinner food bag filled with fresh turkeys or chickens, fresh vegetables and fruit, and enough food to feed their family a special Christmas dinner.
Volunteer elves and donations with companies and organizations from all over the southland including: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Walt Disney Company, Deloitte, Feed the Children, Galpin Motors, Crespi High School, Performance Bonding Surety & Insurance, Worley Parsons, Wilshire Blvd Temple, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, Paradigm LA, Karl Storz Endoscopy America, Inc, Children's Hunger Fund, Nature's Best, Local 848, Shelter Partnership, Freeman Beauty, Wood Gutman & Bogart, Big Sunday, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Bessie Rush Johnson, Aryzta, Pastor Jimmy and US Games Distribution, Inc.
Every day the Mission clothes and feeds the hungry and homeless. However, the Mission is facing a budget deficit and unless our donations increase and people contribute, we will be faced with some difficult decisions about how many people we can continue to help. At the same time, homelessness in Los Angeles has grown by 80 percent and in the past year alone, it rose by 23 percent. Authorities estimate that 57,794 people in Los Angeles County are now homeless. We are asking businesses, churches, groups and individuals of good will who are interested in making a year-end gift to consider the Mission. Any and all donations are appreciated and tax-deductible.
