SANS to Host CISO Hot Topic Series at the SANSFIRE Event in Washington, D.C.
Will Detail How to Communicate with and Influence CEOs and Boards of Directors
BETHESDA, Md., April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced its next CISO Hot Topic series discussion which will take place at the SANSFIRE 2016 training event in Washington, D.C. June 11 – 18. The CISO Hot Topic sessions offer real world lessons learned and 'What Works' examples. These discussions were created to help CISOs take advantage of their interactions with top management in ways that lead to increases in the effectiveness of an organization's security program.
"Briefing the board of directors is an opportunity to drive changes that are needed to protect the business and its customers. Yet, board members often report CISOs are unprepared, wasting the opportunity to advance the security cause and often losing credibility," said John Pescatore, SANS' Director of Emerging Security Trends. "To be successful when communicating to the board, CISOs need to collect meaningful metrics, understand the expectations board members have and be able to relate critical security issues to business priorities. The CISO Hot Topic series was developed to help CISOs communicate more effectively and to drive changes that are necessary to make advances in corporate cybersecurity."
Steve Martino, VP Information Security, Cisco will kick off the SANSFIRE CISO Hot Topic session. Immediately following, Pescatore will speak about Creating and Monitoring Business Meaningful Security Metrics. Alan Paller, SANS Founder and Research Director, will close the session with a detailed talk on The Most Important Errors CISOs Make in Briefing Top Executives and Boards, and Four Techniques that have Worked Well. Immediately following the CISO Hot Topic session SANS' CISO and Instructor, Frank Kim, will lead a session on CISO Success Strategies.
