SANS Announces Inaugural St. Louis Cyber Security Training Event
Hands-on Immersion Style Training for Security Professionals at Every Level
BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training, today announced its first cyber security training event in St. Louis, Missouri. SANS St. Louis 2019 (#SANSStLouis) will take place March 11-16. The event features courses for all skill levels. SANS Senior Instructor, Philip Hagen will share his unique insight into the double-edge sword of the wider use of encryption during his evening talk "The [Encrypted] Elephant in the Room".
According to Philip Hagen (@PhilHagen), "From a privacy perspective, encryption offers better protection of our increasingly personal communications. From an investigative perspective, however, the decreased visibility will be an obstacle to differentiating malicious from benign activity. This dichotomy will only become more disparate as the need to both protect and examine communications become more pervasive.
"Join me in St. Louis where we will discuss perspectives on this topic, with a focus on some parallels to solutions we as a forensic community have already established such as full disk encryption and strong protection of mobile devices. These and other solutions can all balance the necessary protection of personal data while still allowing appropriate investigative insight needed for today's forensic tasks."
In addition his evening talk, Hagen will teach his co-authored course FOR572: Advanced Network Forensics: Threat Hunting, Analysis, and Incident Response. This course provides students with the tools and methods to conduct network investigations within environments of all sizes, using scenarios developed from real-world cases.
SANS St. Louis 2019 features courses covering a variety of topics including enterprise threat and vulnerability assessment, cyber defense, ethical hacking, digital forensics, and security management. Those new to cyber security will benefit from the SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style course. More experienced professionals will benefit from courses like the new SEC460: Enterprise Threat and Vulnerability Assessment course.
