BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sands Bethlehem, a Bethlehem, Pa., casino and entertainment destination, announced that four local charities will benefit from the hotel's current remodeling. Seventeen rolls of unused carpet, totaling more than 18,000 square feet, will be made into 11 rugs, with the help of local rug company Remita Rugs, and donated to Sixth Street Shelter, Safe Harbor, NHS Health Services and Camelot for Children. As part of the gift, Sands Bethlehem will pay for each carpet to be bound to the receiving organization's room specifications, helping to make the facilities warmer and more inviting for the families, children and homeless that utilize their services.
"Sands Bethlehem receives so much support from the community that we are proud to give back in such an impactful way," said Mark Juliano, President, Sands Bethlehem. "We are happy these organizations will enjoy décor that is free of charge so they can concentrate their fundings on their meaningful programs."
Since opening in 2009, Sands Bethlehem committed to giving back to Bethlehem and the surrounding communities through material, time and monetary donations. Organizations such as Allentown Rescue Mission, Simple Quilts, VIA of the Lehigh Valley and local animal shelters have benefitted from the more than 6,500 pounds of gently used linens, sheets, blankets, towels and floor mats of which the hotel has discontinued use.
Team members also spend time together outside of working hours to give back to the community on their own. In 2015 alone, more than 1,000 team members volunteered 2,300 hours at various events, including the Victory House and Angel 34. Team members also take leadership roles to lead these efforts, such as Sue Matthews, facilities project manager at Sands Bethlehem. She serves on Angel 34's board and coordinates fundraising for all of the events and activities throughout the year.
"We are so thankful for Sands Bethlehem's generosity," said Chris Cleaver, Executive Director, Camelot for Children. "The carpet we received improved our space tremendously. We are able to make a more comfortable play space for the children and decorate a new movie area for families."
