San Francisco Health Plan Reaches 100,000 Member Milestone
San Francisco Health Plan now provides affordable, quality health care to one out of eight San Francisco residents
SAN FRANCISCO, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP), a community health plan, announced today that it has surpassed 100,000 members. Today's announcement represents an important milestone in the effort to help individuals and families obtain access to high-quality health care services in San Francisco County.
Since 1997, SFHP has been providing affordable health care coverage to low- and moderate-income families in San Francisco County. Members have access to a full spectrum of medical services including preventive care, specialty care, hospitalization, and prescription drugs.
Members can choose from a dedicated provider network of over 2,600 primary care providers and specialists, 9 hospitals and 200 pharmacies that speak their language in the neighborhoods close to where they live and work.
"This significant milestone demonstrates the importance of and the need for health care insurance for all San Franciscans," said John F. Grgurina, Jr., CEO of San Francisco Health Plan. "Working alongside our network of committed providers, our Governing Board, our Member Advisory Committee, and the entire SFHP team, I am proud of our uncompromised dedication to providing the highest quality care to the people of San Francisco."
Mr. Grgurina, Jr. added, "we will continue to be a leader in the community and grow as needed, doing our part to support Health Care Reform in San Francisco and responding to the immense need of connecting people to health care services."
SFHP has been the recipient of the California Department of Health Care Services Gold Award each of the last six years. This award is determined by performance in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, a national set of measures for clinical care delivered to health plan members.
SFHP provides health coverage in the Medi-Cal, Healthy Workers, and Healthy Kids programs in San Francisco. Combined with individuals served in Healthy San Francisco, the City's non-insurance program administered by SFHP, the Plan provides services to over 140,000 residents of San Francisco, over 17% of the entire population of San Francisco, which is one out of every six residents.
