SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- After finishing last season just five yards away from winning its sixth Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers find themselves as the team to beat in the 2013 NFL season. That's according to a leading sports handicapping firm, which has simulated the upcoming season and developed an exclusive power ranking system to determine the league's best team.

IntPicks.com used the same simulation system it developed for its handicapping methodology to develop the IntPicks.com NFL Power Ratings. These simulations predict a fierce battle between the 49ers and the second-ranked Seattle Seahawks for the NFC West title and a strong performance in general from NFC teams. The Denver Broncos are the highest AFC team, coming in third in the preseason rankings.
Each game of the regular season was simulated by the staff of seasoned statisticians for 20,000 times, and teams were given a weighted ranking from 1 to 99 for its offense, defense, special teams and coaching based on their projected performance. The outcomes from the simulations led to the teams' overall ranking as well projected Win/Loss record for the season.
"We considered every possible detail relevant to each game, down to the projected weather conditions at the time of each match up," said Jesse Weston, president of IntPicks.com. "The simulations were based on the most up to date rosters, and the rankings will be updated regularly through the season."
