San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman named Honorary Chair of Fleet Week San Diego 2012

SAN DIEGO, June 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman has been named the Honorary Chairperson for this year's Fleet Week San Diego.

Now in its 16th year, these annual festivities cover a wide range of events that honor and celebrate the men and women of the military.

"I am pleased to serve as honorary chairman of Fleet Week San Diego 2012," said Hoffman. "My family has a long history of supporting our country and I am proud to be able to show my appreciation to the men and women in uniform in this special way. I encourage all San Diegans to participate in the Fleet Week events to help honor these everyday heroes who live among us."

Renowned for his tenacious work ethic and dedication to community service, Hoffman was the first player in Major League Baseball to reach the 500- and 600-save milestones, and was the all-time saves leader from 2006 until 2011. He was inducted into the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame last year. To honor his late father, a former United States Marine who passed away in 1995, Hoffman annually paid for game tickets and meals for 1,000 members of the military and their families during his playing career.

Fleet Week San Diego 2012 events will take place from September 8 through October 14. The non-profit, 501(c)(3) foundation was created by community and business leaders who understood the great depth of public support for our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen. In addition to honoring the military services through the annual Fleet Week San Diego events, the foundation's goals are to foster awareness of the contributions made by military personnel and their families; to enhance relationships between the civilian, business and military communities; to provide events that military personnel and their families can attend at little or no cost; and to promote other organizations that provide services to military personnel and their families.
