San Diego Convention Center Project Utilizes TrueLook Cameras for Behind-the-Scenes Experience
Leader in construction camera technology provides jobsite monitoring for major renovation of iconic roof at San Diego's waterfront convention center
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Oct. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- TrueLook, the only company that provides construction cameras combining live jobsite viewing, project time-lapsing, and HD security, was chosen as a unique marketing tool for the $10.5 million Sails Pavilion roof renovation project at the San Diego Convention Center.
The 90,000 square foot Sails Pavilion is an iconic feature for the city's waterfront. The original roof was designed and installed as part of the venue's original construction in 1989. Having outlived its estimated 25-year lifespan, the roof is being renovated with all new materials and installation by the original contractor, Birdair, Inc.
"Our Sails Pavilion roof is an icon of the San Diego waterfront skyline," said Barbara Moreno, executive director of communications for the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. "We purchased the TrueLook cameras as a tool to help us tell the story of the project; to show San Diego residents and convention center clients the progress of the roof replacement. And how do you make infrastructure interesting? You make it fun, engaging and transparent through videos and photos."
Birdair, headquartered in Amherst, New York, designed and installed the original roof and is the primary contractor for this project.
"We like the view we get from the TrueLook camera," said Joe Magiera, director of project management with Birdair. "It gives us the opportunity to remotely view progress on the project. Having eyes on our progress really provides us with a peace of mind that all is going well."
TrueLook cameras are used all over North America for large and small construction projects.
"We're delighted to be part of such an iconic and visible project like this," said Ken Pittman, TrueLook's chief marketing officer. "TrueLook's camera systems are perfectly suited to projects like this where we can show the interior work and the exterior overview. Of course, you can't ask for better weather or a more beautiful view than what we have with San Diego. We're looking forward to seeing this roof renovation take shape over the next few months."
Work began on the San Diego Convention Center roof project in August and is expected to be completed in late January, 2018.
"This camera is ours to utilize in telling our story in any location for any project," Moreno said. "The San Diego Convention Center will continue to provide world-class services in an awe-inspiring facility."
The Sails Pavilion roof is just one of the many infrastructure improvements and enhancements underway at the convention center. The California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) Board of Directors gave the final approval to finance the $25.5 million in capital improvement projects in June, 2016.
