San Diego Community College District Selects Enterasys to Support Multi-Campus Networking for 100,000 Students
Enterasys Modular Switches Connect Six Continuing Education Sites Across San Diego While Scaling to Meet the College's Rapid Growth
ANDOVER, Mass., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterasys, the network infrastructure and security division of Siemens Enterprise Communications GmbH & Co KG, today announced that San Diego Community College District (SDCCD), one of the largest community college districts in the state of California, has deployed Enterasys solutions to provide IT infrastructure for its 100,000 students and 3,000 staff across three area campus locations and six continuing education satellite locations. Through Enterasys solutions and service, SDCCD's lean IT staff has realized its goal of upgrading infrastructure to support next-generation communications technology while meeting the school's security and budget requirements.
"The 100 percent flexibility of Enterasys solutions and service impressed us the most when making our decision," said Kent Keyser, director of Information Technology at San Diego Community College District. "Enterasys worked with my team on a customized solution that supported our unique campus structure, while offering high-quality training that would have been cost-prohibitive with other vendors. The Enterasys training has set the quality benchmark by which all our other vendors are now measured. Our network experiences no downtime and is proactively managed by my staff."
SDCCD has experienced record growth over the last two years due to increased student enrollment, which prompted the IT upgrade. The College's Enterasys network is designed to enable more cost-effective data collaboration between departments and supports Internet connectivity for full-time and part-time students. The College also has future plans for a campus-wide VoIP implementation and networked video security cameras — technology that wasn't an option with their previous infrastructure.
"We have witnessed an expansion rate of between one and two new campus buildings per year," Keyser noted. "Enterasys N-Series switches give my small staff the ability to quickly scale, while the Network Management Suite (NMS) allows us to monitor all activity and dynamically prioritize bandwidth availability to each building. With Enterasys, it has been easy to add on new hardware, features and management levels. We are confident that Enterasys solutions and service will allow us to continue to scale to support any future technology initiatives."
