Mayor Castro, 38, a rising star in the Democratic Party and the youngest mayor of one of the top 50 cities in America, said that he was looking forward to Tuesday's luncheon. "What a wonderful opportunity for me to speak before this group of dedicated community development professionals who are working to transform underserved neighborhoods and positively impact the lives of the people who call them home."
Pam Flaherty, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Citi Foundation, the Academy's key sponsor, expressed her excitement as well. "It will be an honor to share the stage with and introduce Mayor Castro, one of the country's brightest and most inspiring leaders. Since taking office, Mayor Castro has revitalized San Antonio, and his continued focus on creating local jobs and affordable housing opportunities keeps his city at the forefront of the national conversation about effective urban reinvestment."
