San Antonio Dignitaries to Attend Grand Opening of Senior Apartments

SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) will join representatives from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), Broadway National Bank, and George Gervin Youth Center for the grand opening of the George Gervin Retirement Apartments. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2016, at 7527 Mainland Drive in San Antonio, Texas. The media is encouraged to attend.

George Gervin Youth Center was founded by former San Antonio Spurs Player George Gervin, whose mission is to provide a free public charter school to students, and provide community assistance for residents in need. The grand opening will celebrate the completion of an apartment community for low-income seniors, disabled, and homeless populations, funded in part by a $500,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant from FHLB Dallas and Broadway National Bank. Additional funding for the $7 million project came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

AHP grants are available annually through FHLB Dallas member institutions such as Broadway National Bank to assist in the development of affordable owner-occupied and rental housing for very low- to moderate-income households located across FHLB Dallas' five-state District of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas. In 2015, FHLB Dallas awarded $7.4 million in AHP grants to 32 projects that will result in 965 new or renovated housing units.
