Samsung Spin-off Innomdle Lab to Launch "Sgnl", the Watch Strap that Lets You Make Phone Calls with Your Fingertip
Sgnl debuts at 2016 IFA after Kickstarter campaign raises USD1 million
SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- K-ICT Born2Global Centre (Born2Global), a major Korean government agency under the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP), announced on Sept. 23 that Innomdle Lab, a member of Born2Global would begin mass producing its independently developed "Sgnl" by the end of the year.
Sgnl is a watch strap that allows the user to talk on their cellphone simply by pressing their fingertip to their ear. Sgnl's key technology lies in its patented Body Conduction Unit (BCU), which is capable of transmitting vibrations through the body, which then can be converted to sound. Sgnl communicates with the user's phone through Bluetooth, and when a voice signal is received, Sgnl will generate vibrations through its BCU. These vibrations will be sent through the users' hand to their fingertip. When users place their fingertip to their ear, the vibration echoes to create amplified sound within the closed space of their ear and they can speak through the microphone embedded in the Sgnl strap.
As of Sept. 23, Sgnl had already exceeded its original Kickstarter (http://kck.st/2c0hGcW) goal twentyfold, amassing $1,000,000 indicating the product's innovativeness has been widely recognized. Innomdle Lab is continuing crowdfunding with Sgnl at Kickstarter until Oct. 8.
Last month, Innomdle Lab displayed Sgnl at the 2016 IFA, Europe's largest home appliance expo, where it received a great deal of attention from global companies. With just one year having passed since its inception, the company is now pursuing an omnidirectional approach to both online and offline global marketing.
Designed in the format of a watch strap, Sgnl can be used not only for smartwatches including Samsung Gear, Apple Watch or Pebble Time, but also regular and classic watches. Sgnl is designed to fit all 18-24mm standard watch lugs. It will feature alarm and health care functions as well.
