Sam's Club® Offers Free Skin Health Screenings for Skin Cancer Awareness Month
Free In-club DermaScan™ Tests on May 14
BENTONVILLE, Ark., May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States today, but the good news is there are many ways to protect your skin and prevent skin cancer. One of the easiest ways to start that protection is a skin assessment, and on Saturday, May 14, Sam's Club will be offering free DermaScan™ skin tests to the first 100 participants who sign up in each club.
"May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and according to the American Cancer Society, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of their lifetime," said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam's Club Health and Wellness. "Sam's Club hopes to promote early detection and prevention of skin cancer. By offering free skin health screenings in our pharmacy areas, we can help educate how important it is to protect your skin."
The screenings, conducted by U.S. Wellness, are available to both members and non-members. Those who participate in the free screenings at Sam's Club will be given a DermaScan, a simple test that uses Type A ultraviolet (UV) light to show sun damage that is invisible to the naked human eye. The condition of the skin below the surface is illuminated in various fluorescent hues, making sun-damaged areas, blocked pores, oily and dry spots visible. Participants will also receive Sophyto samples from its organically-based anti-aging skin care line while supplies last.
Most sun exposure in a person's lifetime occurs between the ages 19 and 40. Sam's Club has a wide variety of valued products to help protect everyone's skin, including products from Coppertone and the Neutrogena Spectrum + Advanced Sunblock with Helioplex360™ line which provides comprehensive, full-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Additionally, Sam's Club trusted pharmacists are always available to help members find the best skincare products for particular needs, as well as a variety of health and wellness solutions.
Sam's Club will continue to host different free monthly health screenings throughout the year, including:
- Diabetes
- Kids' Health
- Men's Health
- Vision Health
- Women's Health
