Sam's Club® Offers Free Men's Health Screening Tests
In-club screenings available June 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
BENTONVILLE, Ark., June 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Many of the major health risks that men face can be prevented and treated if they are diagnosed early, so getting the right screening test at the right time is one of the most important things a man can do for his health. In honor of Men's Health Month, Sam's Club will be offering free men's health screening tests on Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The screenings, conducted by Carmen Ingle & Associates, will include a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test and a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test*. These tests, which help detect life threatening health conditions such as prostate cancer, are usually only offered to men 50 and over and often cost more than $200. Proactive screening tests can help find diseases early, sometimes before symptoms develop, when treatments are most effective.
"At Sam's Club, we know personally how crucial these screenings can be. After participating in a free screening last year, one of our young managers received results of elevated PSA levels. He consulted with his doctor, was diagnosed early and credits the early screening with saving his life," said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam's Club Health and Wellness. "According to the American Cancer Society, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Sam's Club hopes that by offering these free screenings, we can encourage men to get ahead of the game and take charge of their health."
Unilever brands including Dove Men's Deodorant and Body Wash are sponsoring the screenings, which will take place in Sam's Club pharmacy areas. In addition to the PSA and TSH tests, screening participants will also be given standard BMI, blood pressure and glucose tests. Additionally, Sam's Club trusted pharmacists are always available to help all members with any of their health and wellness questions.
Sam's Club will continue to host free monthly health screenings throughout the year, including:
- Kids' Health
- Diabetes
- Vision Health
- Women's Health

* Carmen Ingle & Associates will administer one blood test per person, which will be used for either a PSA or TSH test. Men will automatically receive the PSA test and women will receive the TSH test, unless otherwise specified. If a man would like both tests, he can request two blood samples on-site.
