Sam's Club® Announces Winner of Gourmet Cheese 'Tour de Fromage' Contest
South Dakotan Donna Miner Wins Trip for Two to Paris
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Donna Miner, a resident of Milbank, S.D., is the grand prize winner of the Sam's Club "Tour de Fromage" contest. Miner was one of nearly 1,700 people entered in the contest which was conducted via Facebook between Sept. 29 and Dec. 31, 2010.
Each day, visitors to the Sam's Club page learned about one of 23 international gourmet cheeses available at Sam's Club including favorites like Maytag Blue, Pleasant Ridge Reserve, North Downs Blue Stilton and DaVinci Gouda.
"At Sam's Club we pride ourselves on the selection of international gourmet cheeses, many of which we brought into the United States exclusively for our members," said Jim McGrath, Sam's Club cheese buyer. "With more than 16,000 visitors to the site and nearly 1,700 participants over the course of the contest, we are confident people appreciated learning more about where their favorite cheeses come from as well as how to serve them."
Participants not only learned about the origins, characteristics and suggested food pairings for each cheese, but they also were able to take a virtual trip around the world and have a "passport" stamped with each new cheese they explored. Accumulating 12 stamps qualified the participant for the grand prize drawing of a trip for two to Paris, France, or one of several secondary and daily prizes ranging from cookbooks to gourmet cheese baskets.
