CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE® — https://www.sampeamerica.org/) will hold its annual event at the Charlotte Convention Center from May 20–23. Marking its 75th anniversary, SAMPE will host a special celebration that includes opening keynote speaker, Dr. Greg Hyslop from The Boeing Company, technical paper presentations, tutorials, and multiple exhibitions; all before culminating in an awards breakfast to recognize multiple young professionals and outstanding technical content.
"SAMPE has been known, since its inception 75 years ago, as the place where people who work in materials and processing can come together and get their industrial and manufacturing problems solved. At our core, we have always been a technology ideas aggregator," said Gregg Balko, CEO. "We are happy and excited to celebrate this special SAMPE anniversary — a major milestone to commemorate the goals accomplished by some of the hardest working professionals across multiple industries — people we're proud to call our members."
Opening Keynote Speaker: Greg Hyslop, D.Sc.
Innovators and their designs ultimately lead to transformative effects around the globe. This facilitates bedrock changes in infrastructure, new types of air vehicles, and new explorations of the frontiers of space — representing the very edges of scientific discovery. These future explorations and expansions catalyze major, exciting changes across virtually all disciplines for the advanced materials and processes community.
As Chief Technology Officer for The Boeing Company, Dr. Hyslop will open the conference by sharing some of his perspectives on these ideas, and on how the community represented within SAMPE can leverage and maximize such world-changing impacts in the coming years.
Awards Ceremony
In addition to recognizing up and coming Young Professionals, three technical paper awards winners will be announced:
- 1st place: "Multiscale Approaches to Formation of Thermoplastic Prepreg Short Carbon Fiber" — Drexel University
- 2nd place: "Reliable Optimized Structures with High Performance Continuous Fiber Thermoplastic Composites from Additive Manufacturing (AM)" — Arevo, Inc.
