NEW YORK, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sam Tabar, capital strategist and prominent attorney, has added THINX, a startup company that helps women in America and Africa, to his investment portfolio. THINX specializes in fashionable underwear to support women's menstruation and incontinence. The purchase of one pair of these undergarments provides reusable cloth sanitary pads through AFRIpads to women in Africa who would otherwise miss work or school. The company started through a Kickstarter campaign and now offers five styles of fashionable yet functional underwear.

Tabar believes that THINX is special in regard to its business model along with its financial support that encourages people of the community to think about global issues and give back through their own purchases. "THINX helps others through their unique design. Antonia and Miki are making a difference with their product," Sam Tabar said. With every purchase a woman in Uganda is given seven washable, reusable cloth pads through AFRIpads which allows the woman to leave her home and return to school or work where traditionally a menstruating woman in Africa who does not have resources to manage their menstruation, would have no choice but to stay at home.
With experience as legal counsel to Sparx Group/PMA Investment Advisors, as well as his personal stint as Director and Head of Capital Strategy for the Asia-Pacific Region for Merill Lynch, Sam Tabar understands the investment market. A prominent attorney in New York, he graduated from Columbia Law School and Oxford University before working with hedge funds at Skadden, Arps, Slater, Meagher & Flom. Tabar also served as senior associate catering to hedge funds for Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP before investing in THINX.
The women that started THINX were introduced to Sam Tabar through mutual friends. Though he was not looking to invest at the time, the business model caught his attention. The company has succeeded through a Kickstarter campaign as well as other crowdfunding campaigns to bring in financing. Now, THINX offers their product through their website and offers wholesale distribution. THINX underwear are available in five fashionable styles to provide women comfort and confidence during their menstruation cycle. Customers can sign the manifesto on the company's website to empower those who purchase the THINX products by proving that they have helped to keep another woman in school through the assistance their purchase provided.
