PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Salvation Army is set to open a new store at 855 E. Carson Street on Pittsburgh's historic Southside on September 18, 2014. The new store is designed to improve the shopping experience for its customers and includes 15,000 square feet of shopping space filled with bargain-priced clothing, household items, electronics, books, toys, furniture and collectables. Budget-conscious shoppers will also appreciate the store's even deeper "Family Day" discounts on Wednesdays.
Located at the corner of E. Carson and South 9th Street, the Family Store will open its doors for the first time at 10:00 a.m. following the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:45 a.m. Opening day shoppers will enjoy free coffee and donuts in the morning, free give-aways all day, and can register to win a 40" Magnavox Flat Screen TV. No purchase is necessary to participate in these give-aways.
The new store will bring more than 10 new jobs to the area. It will also make it possible for The Salvation Army to provide better assistance for people in the community who are struggling with alcohol, drugs, and other life issues since revenues from the Family Store will support the charity's rehabilitation center. This center offers services free of charge, and sales from the Family Thrift store are its sole source of funding. Families in need may also receive vouchers for free furniture or clothing from the store through other Salvation Army programs.
"Our new Family Store will offer more selection and more bargains that appeal to everyone in order to provide our customers with a better shopping experience and support our social services work," says Martina O'Leary, the Administrator who oversees The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh. "We really look forward to contributing to the community at all levels." Tax receipts will be provided on-the-spot for any donations received during store hours 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. After-hours clothing donations can be dropped in the bins located in the parking lot. For more information, please call 412-481-7900 or 800-SA-TRUCK.
