Salutron, Inc. Announces Publication of Open API for LifeTrak® Activity Tracker
Open Access to Platform Allows Integration with Popular Health and Fitness Applications and Sets New Direction for Activity Tracking Industry
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Salutron, Inc., recognized leaders for the most innovative and scientifically accurate fitness and wellness products, today announced that they will provide access to an open, non-proprietary app development platform, providing consumers greater choice in connecting to services and storing data. Open application programming interface (API) documentation is being made available through the Salutron website beginning today and can be accessed at http://lifetrakusa.com/developers/. The open API platform supports applications for Android 4.3 or newer and iOS 5 or newer and all current and future LifeTrak activity trackers with Bluetooth® Smart Connectivity.
The latest LifeTrak activity monitors incorporate leading edge science, technology and design to capture, hold and wirelessly transmit health-related data to Bluetooth Smart-enabled devices, including smart phones and laptop computers. Unlike other activity trackers compatible with dedicated apps, LifeTrak activity trackers are currently compatible with popular applications such as Argus and MapMyFitness, and, through this announcement, are anticipated to be compatible with multiple additional future applications.
"We believe an open community of sharing in the world of personal fitness data is an important component of the future success of the activity monitoring industry," said Dr. Y. Jin Lee, Chief Technology Officer of Salutron, Inc. "We anticipate that providing access to our open API platform will drive further innovation in the developer community and allow consumers to have greater personal choice. We are pleased to extend our established leadership in the science of activity tracking to the future development of the industry, and believe expanding the community of sharing in the world of personal fitness will further advance our mission of improving global health."
