On August 5, 2013, Cree, Inc. (Cree) announced that it has signed a non-exclusive worldwide patent license agreement with Transphorm, Inc. (Transphorm) that allows Cree's extensive family of patents related to GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) and GaN Scotty diode devices to be used in the field of power conversion device. Cree stated that while GaN HEMTs are already being used extensively in RF (radio frequency) markets by the Company and others, their use in power conversion markets has been targeted by Transphorm and a number of other companies.
