Salary Cap Daily Fantasy Sports is Dead - Boom Fantasy Joins DraftKings as Only Approved Pick'Em Sites in New York
New York State Gaming Commission Approves Boom Fantasy's Application to Operate in the State
NEW YORK, Aug. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Boom Fantasy, the rapidly growing fantasy sports company that has revolutionized the daily fantasy sports experience, announced today that it has received a permit to offer paid DFS contests in New York State.
Boom Fantasy is the first approved company in the state that exclusively offers pick'em contests, asking questions like, 'Which quarterback will have the most passing yards this week?" and allowing players to choose between just a few players. DraftKings launched its own pick'em format earlier this month as it seeks to find a gameplay that is more sustainable than its shark-infested salary cap contests, which are virtually unwinnable for the casual fan.
"We're excited to finally offer New York DFS players an alternative to the traditional salary-cap contest," said Stephen A. Murphy, CEO of Boom Fantasy. "It's no secret that the DFS industry has been starved for innovation. The basic format of salary-cap contests hasn't changed in 10 years. This permit, which we received after a comprehensive regulatory review by the New York State Gaming Commission, proves that there are fun, innovative ways to legally offer DFS contests that other operators have ignored."
Under the terms of the permit, Boom can immediately start offering its DFS contests to players located within New York. The company will pay out millions of dollars in cash prizes this NFL season.
