Saint Leo University Polling Institute Finds More than 70 Percent of U.S. Adults Concerned About Global Climate Change
SAINT LEO, Fla., April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A first-of-its-kind survey from the Saint Leo University Polling Institute shows that 73 percent of adult Americans responding are concerned about global climate change. Thirty percent reported being very concerned, and 43 percent said they were somewhat concerned.
The survey base included 1,016 respondents nationally, including voters and non-voters. The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 3 percent, meaning the percentage answers could be off by that amount in either direction.
This is the first time the Saint Leo University Polling Institute has asked members of the public questions about their attitudes about global climate change.
Americans have mixed views on what levels of government or societal sectors are best poised to deal with problems created by global climate change. However, they tend to agree with the recent statement by Pope Francis that it is the responsibility of Christians to care for the environment. In conducting their own lives, the most-frequently reported action Americans have taken to reduce carbon pollution is to buy a smaller or more fuel-efficient car, the survey reports.
In addition, a Saint Leo University faculty member who has designed a course for undergraduates titled Evaluating the Predictions of Global Warming, comments on the survey's responses in relation to scientific research on global climate change.
