SAIC's Larry Cox to Co-Chair Howard County Cyber Commission
MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today that Larry Cox, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, was named Co-Chair of Howard County's recently formed Cyber Commission. Cox will lead the 13-member commission with Co-Chair Richard Roca of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. The Commission will deliver guidance to Howard County Executive Ken Ulman to help maximize opportunities generated by the evolution of cyber activity in the Baltimore-Washington region.
The Cyber Commission comprises members representing small, medium and large businesses in Howard County and cover varying fields of expertise such as financial, real estate, technology and cyber information. The commission, in conjunction with nearby Ft. Meade and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), positions Howard County to be a major player in national and international cyber initiatives.
Since joining SAIC in 2005, Cox has been widely recognized for his role in making SAIC an industry leader in helping government and commercial enterprises prepare for, protect against, and respond to a wide array of cybersecurity threats. Most recently, Cox spearheaded the opening of SAIC's Cyber Innovation Center (CIC) in Columbia, Md., which enables the delivery of cybersecurity services and solutions by providing a collaboration space dedicated to fusing the ideas and technologies required to address the nation's toughest cybersecurity challenges. Cox is also a member of the CyberPatriot Board of Advisors. CyberPatriot is the National High School Cyber Defense Competition created by the Air Force Association (AFA) to educate the next generation of cyber defenders. SAIC is one of the founding partners for this initiative.
Cox brings an extensive intelligence and information services background to this committee. He currently serves as a panel member of the National Security Agency Advisory Board and leads SAIC's cyber efforts. Prior to joining SAIC, Cox was a member of the House Intelligence Committee Professional Staff, managing program and budget accounts for space, ground and high-technology systems and also worked at NSA for eleven years.
