SAIC's Defense Solutions Group Successfully Renews CMMI® Level 5 Rating
Rating Developed by Carnegie Mellon University Demonstrates Company's Best Practices for Systems and Software Engineering
MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced that its Defense Solutions Group (DSG) has achieved the Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration® for Development (CMMI-DEV) Maturity Level 5 rating. This is the highest possible attainable rating for benchmarking commercial and defense industry best practices and mature processes for systems and software management and engineering. These repeatable processes can help reduce risk, manage cost, improve technical delivery, and meet demanding schedules.
The comprehensive appraisal assessed systems engineering and integration, hardware and software development and maintenance disciplines across the organization. This accomplishment demonstrates the group's continuous commitment to disciplined processes, having twice previously achieved Maturity Level 5 against earlier SEI benchmarks. Only five percent of organizations worldwide (based on SEI reports from September 2010) report attaining a CMMI Version 1.2 Maturity Level 5 rating.
"As a leader in systems engineering and integration, SAIC has a longstanding commitment to processes that are agile, adaptable and that facilitate the development of quality services and solutions for our customers," said Deborah Alderson, SAIC group president. "Reappraising at this level reflects our continued dedication to achieving high performance and quality as we meet our customers' systems requirements in a cost effective and timely manner."
The Level 5 rating was earned using the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI(SM)) method for executing the appraisal. SAIC's appraisal was led by an SEI-certified high maturity lead appraiser and included review of 22 process areas and 429 practices for projects across the DSG organization.
