MCLEAN, Va., April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) announced today that it again will be the presenting sponsor of the 2015 Washington Nationals Patriotic Series, a four-game series that honors the men and women who currently serve or have served in the U.S. armed forces and celebrates the American spirit while enjoying the national pastime at Nationals Park.
"Integrity and respect have been a part of SAIC's culture since day one. Our employees are proud to support our customers and their missions. The Patriotic Series is another way for employees to come together to welcome and honor members of our nation's military and first responders who put their lives on the line to protect our freedom," said SAIC CEO Tony Moraco. "We are proud to collaborate with the Washington Nationals and continue our support for an event that honors our nation's heroes and their families."
As the presenting sponsor, SAIC will underwrite hundreds of Nationals tickets and donate them to partnering organizations. These tickets will be distributed to members of each organization including, but not limited to, active duty military personnel, reservists, retirees, veterans, wounded warriors, and their families.
The 2015 Patriotic Series includes the following games:
- Military Appreciation Day – Friday, April 17 vs. Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m.
- Women in the Military Day – Saturday, May 23 vs. Philadelphia Phillies at 4:05 p.m.
- Independence Day – Saturday, July 4 vs. San Francisco Giants at 11:05 a.m.
- Heroes Day – Wednesday, Sept. 9 vs. New York Mets at 7:05 p.m.
During each game of the series, SAIC and the Nationals will partner with nonprofit organizations, including USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (USO-Metro), The Mission Continues, Women in Military Service for America (WIMSA), Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Operation Homefront, Pentagon Memorial Fund, and Luke's Wings, to distribute the donated tickets to service members and their families.
During the Military Appreciation Day game, SAIC will recognize USO-Metro, which provides programs and services to military members and their families living and traveling throughout the Washington-Baltimore region. Also during this game, The Mission Continues, an organization that redeploys veterans to provide service in their communities while helping them adjust to life after the military, will be honored.
On Women in the Military Day, SAIC will host WIMSA to honor women who have served our country and TAPS to recognize the family members and survivors of fallen heroes.
In celebration of Independence Day, Operation Homefront, a national organization that provides emergency assistance to military families, will be honored at the game. Representatives of Operation Homefront will join SAIC employees in a salute to the holiday with a large flag unfurling during the performance of the National Anthem.
Heroes Day, the team's Sept. 11, 2001 remembrance, will recognize the Pentagon Memorial Fund and Luke's Wings by honoring and remembering the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, as well as recognizing the resolve and compassion demonstrated by our fellow Americans in the wake of disaster.
USO Me and a Friend Program
Throughout the season, SAIC will also co-sponsor a hospitality area for every Sunday home game in support of the Nationals "Me and a Friend" program, which benefits USO-Metro. As part of the program, the Nationals and USO-Metro distribute more than 1,200 tickets to the children of active duty military families, giving them the opportunity to use the free tickets to connect with peers and help make new friends. The group has special access to the SAIC-hosted hospitality area, which offers food and beverages as well as T-shirts. Participants also get priority for the postgame "Kids Run the Bases" activities.
"As military members deploy in and out of the country and across the nation, their families must often endure the hardships associated with multiple moves, such as getting used to a new community and schools," said USO-Metro CEO and President Elaine Rogers. "Each move means military children have to re-adjust to their new environment and begin the process of making friends all over again. Thanks to the support of SAIC and the Nationals, this transition process is made easier for our young patriots and their parents, and we're extremely grateful to them for their unwavering support."
