MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAIC) announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has renewed SAIC's Security System Integration Services (SSIS) certification and designation under the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act of 2002. SAIC offers its SSIS, a "Qualified Anti-terrorism Technology," to federal, state and local governments, port authorities, airports, and other critical infrastructure.

This Technology provides wide area surveillance and situational awareness to reduce terrorist threats from persons, land and submarine vehicles, small vessels, or swimmers that deliver or intend to emplace improvised explosive devices against high valued assets or critical infrastructures such as air or seaports, ship channels, harbors, chemical or nuclear plants, freeways, bridges, tunnels, or ferries.
Based on these threats, SAIC designs, develops, creates and installs security systems based on a wide range of commercial-off–the-shelf hardware and software. The technology includes the design, development, engineering, integration, installation, and maintenance of a real-time, integrated security system that can be networked into a customer's existing protocols. This results in an integrated security system that can consist of video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, network communications, power and infrastructure subsystems, and command and control capabilities, depending on the customer's needs.
"SAFETY Act Certification is an acknowledgement of SAIC's contribution to homeland security through its integrated surveillance systems," said Nazzic Keene, SAIC sector president. "We are pleased to be able to provide this service to the nation."
The SAFETY Act ensures that the threat of liability does not deter potential manufacturers or sellers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing and commercializing technologies that could save lives and protect property.
