SAIC Receives NVSBC Champions of Veterans Enterprise Award
Company Recognized for Excellence in Working with Veteran-Owned Small Businesses
MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today that it has been awarded the Champions of Veterans Enterprise Award by the National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC) for exemplary commitment to working with veteran-owned small businesses. The award is given in recognition of SAIC's strong support and use of veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses as subcontractors and suppliers. It is the only award given to the industry by the veteran-owned small business community.
The mission of NVSBC is to transition veterans into business owners serving the Federal marketplace by working to ensure that veteran businesses are given first consideration for federal prime and subcontracting procurement opportunities.
"The NVSBC is proud to recognize SAIC with the Champions of Veterans Enterprise Award for their outstanding support and subcontracting accomplishments with these small businesses," said Scott Denniston, executive director of NVSBC. "We consider SAIC to be a true partner in this endeavor, and congratulate the company on receiving one of NVSBC's inaugural awards."
SAIC continually strives to foster relationships with small businesses, specifically those that are veteran-owned. In Government Fiscal Year 2010, SAIC awarded over $460 million in subcontracts to veteran-owned businesses with over half of that going to service-disabled veteran-owned businesses – marking the fourth consecutive year that SAIC has exceeded the statutory 3% goal for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. The company has also provided training in business and proposal development, pricing strategies and program management to more than 150 veteran-owned businesses at no cost, with the purpose of fostering the growth of such firms in the federal marketplace. These programs are the culmination of a series of initiatives implemented by SAIC, focused on developing strong relationships with veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, thereby increasing business opportunities for them.
"At SAIC, we believe veteran-owned small businesses bring the needed capabilities and subject matter expertise to enable SAIC to better serve our customers and their missions," said Jim Cuff, SAIC executive vice president for Business Development, Strategy and M&A. "We are particularly honored to receive this award as it is a recognition of our company's commitment to work with those who have made the sacrifice to serve and continue to serve our country."
