"It is an honor to receive this award and recognize our employees for their support to DLA," said Linda Messano, SAIC DLA Group senior vice president. "We have proudly supported DLA's mission for more than 30 years and our team's response to Hurricane Sandy was indicative of our dedication to that mission."
DLA presents industry partners, customers, and individuals with its BAAs annually to recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts to partner with DLA to complete the agency's mission to provide supplies and services to America's warfighters.
Following Hurricane Sandy's arrival upon the shores of the northeast United States in October 2012, DLA received emergency orders to lease power generators during the hurricane induced power outage. To meet this need, SAIC employees supporting the Prime Vender Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (PVMRO) contract in Fairfield, N.J., reached out to satellite offices in Warner Robins, Ga., and Honolulu, Hawaii, to source, lease and deliver nine trailer-mounted 1,000-kilowatt generators to the Navy facility in Lakehurst, N.J.
SAIC's PVMRO team located these generators in Louisiana, Ohio, and Texas and arranged for their rapid shipment in response to DLA's requirements. Two months later, SAIC also facilitated the closeout of the lease and return of the equipment.
"SAIC's team worked with equipment subcontractors to deliver the generators almost a week ahead of schedule," explained Messano. "Although our main office in Fairfield was without power, SAIC's network of satellite offices stepped up to assist the customer."
