SAIC Expands Human Language Technology Offerings for Federal and Commercial Customers
Company Purchases Technology, Intellectual Property and Other Assets From AppTek Partners, LLC; Applications Technology, Inc.; and MediaMind, LLC
MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) [NYSE: SAI] announced today it has acquired technology, intellectual property and related assets from three firms that develop human language technologies: AppTek Partners, LLC; Applications Technology, Inc.; and MediaMind, LLC.
As part of the deal, SAIC will acquire a complete suite of products for text and speech (voice) processing, including machine translation, knowledge management and automated speech recognition tools for more than 30 languages . Federal government and commercial customers use these tools to automatically translate and transcribe large volumes of data and significantly reduce the amount of time needed to edit and finalize translated output.
The acquired technology and assets will help further establish SAIC as a leader in delivering language services to the intelligence, defense and law enforcement communities. The deal will bolster SAIC's existing portfolio of more than 70 languages and dialects, helping linguists provide enhanced translation, interpretation and analysis services to U.S. government and commercial firm decision-makers.
"The combination of new machine translation technology and SAIC's existing human translation capabilities will serve as a powerful accelerant for developing real-time language translation solutions that quickly and accurately reflect the true meaning of a particular culture or dialect," said John Hynes, senior vice president and business unit general manager. "We are well positioned for growth in this rising market segment."
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
