MCLEAN, Va., April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) announced today at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Global Force Symposium that it will donate $175,000 to the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC). As part of SAIC's commitment to continue support children of military families, this donation builds upon the company's relationship with MCEC, which includes sponsorship of the Student 2 Student (S2S) program, the National Training Seminar, Tell Me a Story, Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program, and the Bernard Curtis Brown II Memorial Space Camp Scholarship program.
Founded in 1998, MCEC is a global, nonprofit leadership and advocacy organization focused on ensuring quality educational opportunities for America's 2 million military-connected children affected by mobility, family separation, and transition. Military children generally move six to nine times during their K-12 school years and many make multiple moves during high school years alone, some even during their senior year. MCEC's mission is to help families, schools, and communities be better prepared to support military-connected children throughout their academic careers.
"Many of SAIC's employees are veterans who have served our nation and their children have been affected by many of the same issues that military children face. Our company works closely with our armed services and it's our honor to give back to organizations such as MCEC," said John Gully, SAIC senior vice president and general manager of the Army and Air Force Customer Group. "Today marks the beginning of the Month of the Military Child and we are pleased to support MCEC and its mission of ensuring quality educational experiences for all military children."
This year MCEC celebrates its 17th year of advocating for millions of children whose parents are active duty, guard, reserves, or veterans. "We are sincerely appreciative of SAIC's generous support of all our military connected children," said MCEC President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mary Keller. "We are responding to an ever-growing demand for our programs and services with an exciting expansion of our new initiatives. SAIC's substantial contribution helps us to meet this need and we deeply appreciate their confidence in MCEC and commitment to supporting the children of our men and women who serve our nation."
