SAIC Awarded Contract By U.S. Space And Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic
Company to Provide Turnkey Solutions
MCLEAN, Va., May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) [NYSE: SAI] today announced it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic for the procurement of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), network and communications equipment and related support services. The multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a one-year base period, four one-year options, and a total contract value of approximately $500 million.
SSC Atlantic's engineering centers support the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies. Its primary mission is to provide knowledge superiority for the joint warfighter through the development, acquisition, and life-cycle support of effective, integrated command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C5ISR) capabilities. As part of its mission, SSC Atlantic delivers "speed-to-capability" in support of DoD and the global war on terrorism.
Under the contract, SAIC will provide SSC Atlantic with rapid access to turnkey solutions for the warfighter as required, and help with improvement initiatives that include mission effectiveness, efficient utilization of resources, and volume discounts. This procurement will require compliance with net-centric enterprise solutions for interoperability in building information systems that conform to the net-centric warfare environment. SAIC is one of 14 contractors that will compete for task orders under this contract.
"We look forward to working with SSC Atlantic, enabling it to leverage off SAIC's expertise in supply chain management, processes, and electronic procurement systems, as well as communications equipment procurement and integration experience – all in support of the warfighter," said Jim Thigpen, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
