SAIC Awarded Contract By The U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers St. Louis District
Company to Provide Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) Investigation and Remediation Programs
MCLEAN, Va., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) [NYSE: SAI] announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) St. Louis District to provide Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) investigation and remediation programs. The single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has five-year base period of performance and a total contract value of approximately $37 million. Work will be performed in St. Louis, MO and Burlington, IA.
The St. Louis District's Formerly Used Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) protects public health and the environment by removing low-level radioactive contamination generated by activities of the Manhattan Engineer District and the Atomic Energy Commission (MED/AEC) during the development of atomic weapons in the St. Louis Region in the 1940s and 1950s. SAIC has worked with the St. Louis District to employ innovative, cost-effective actions at four major sites and approximately 100 vicinity properties that were contaminated with legacy low-level radioactive and chemical waste from the MED.
Under the contract, SAIC will continue to provide HTRW investigation and remediation programs to be managed by the St. Louis District, including administrative record and document management, data management, technical and regulatory integration, extent of contamination surveys, confirmation of remedial actions, on-site laboratory environmental monitoring and radiological support, and project controls necessary for the execution of the St. Louis District's FUSRAP. SAIC will also provide environmental services including radiological surveys, environmental monitoring, laboratory operations and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) decision documents.
"This contract award represents the continuation of more than 14 years of SAIC support to the USACE St. Louis District," said JT Grumski, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager. "Our tremendous depth of experience with the FUSRAP provides the St. Louis District the highest understanding of the current status of all FUSRAP sites, and we look forward to continuing to provide environmental cleanup of residual radiological contamination from historical MED operations."
