SAIC Awarded $24 Million Contract to Support Air Traffic Control & Landing Systems at Tinker Air Force Base
Company to Provide Deployable Air Force Tactical Air Navigation Systems In Support of The Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS) Program
MCLEAN, Va., May 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Air Force (AF) to deliver deployable tactical air navigation (D-TACAN) systems to the Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS) program office at Tinker Air Force Base (AFB), Okla. The new contract has a three year period of performance and is valued at more than $24 million. Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif.
The mission of USAF ATCALS is to enhance combat forces by enabling the safe, orderly, and expeditious launch and recovery of aircraft throughout the United States and host nations. To accomplish this, ATCALS utilizes a variety of systems, including D-TACAN systems, which are easily transportable, and used by military aircraft to provide bearing and distance of aircraft to a ground or ship-borne air station. Under the contract, SAIC will deliver an estimated 19 D-TACAN systems, including transmitting, monitoring, antenna, distribution, status display and control subsystems, to replace the currently fielded TRN-26 series TACANs. Replacing these units will help the AF achieve increased availability and reliability, and a smaller logistical footprint. SAIC will work with the 558th ATCALS sustainment group at Tinker AFB to deliver the new systems.
"We are pleased to continue our role as a leading ATCALS and navigational aid systems integrator for the USAF by delivering quality remote, maintenance-capable navigation aids to help enhance critical capabilities," said Glenn San Giacomo, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
