SAIC Awarded $21 Million Contract by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
Company to Help Enhance Information Technology Infrastructure and Security Standards for the U.S. Forest Service
MCLEAN, Va., May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service to provide the expertise, technical knowledge, and staff support for a Comprehensive Robust Information Security (CRIS) program designed to safeguard information entrusted to the Forest Service. The single award contract has a one year base period of performance, two-one year options, and a total value of $21 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed in the National Capital Region, Denver, Colo., and Milwaukee, Wis.
The USDA Forest Service is responsible for stewardship of the nation's 155 national forests and 20 national grasslands encompassing more than 193 million acres. The CRIS program will strengthen information security, addressing the challenges presented by a large and diverse set of applications on a variety of platforms across the agency. Under the contract, SAIC will help safeguard the information entrusted to the Forest Service by providing expertise and technical knowledge to enhance its IT security posture by ensuring a consistent application of information security standards. SAIC will also perform analysis to ensure security controls are consistently implemented; provide governance and strategic planning assistance for the Forest IT security program; integrate new technology with IT security standards; develop and execute plans for monitoring, assessing, and verifying security controls; and develop, execute and exercise IT systems resiliency.
